Welcome to the web site of Glen Pharma, a UK based independent pharmaceutical consultancy with a particular interest in the administration of drugs by Target Controlled Infusion (TCI).  Glen Pharma is run by Dr J B (Iain) Glen.

Administration of drugs by TCI allows the user to set and adjust a desired drug concentration instead of an infusion rate as in usual clinical practice.  The principal advantage of TCI is that titration of drug dosage to achieve a desired effect is facilitated.

The first commercial TCI system ( Diprifusor™ TCI) was introduced in 1996 by AstraZeneca for the administration of the i.v.hypnotic agent, propofol.  Infusion devices potentially capable of delivering a wide range of intravenous drugs by TCI are now becoming available.

This site describes the concept of TCI, the potential advantages of TCI for pharmaceutical companies and medical practitioners and identifies a number of therapeutic areas where drugs suitable for TCI could be found.
